About Mike Spencer
Mike Spencer has spent over 40 years working across human resources, employee relations and industrial relations, with experience in the federal government, energy, mining, oil and gas, and construction sectors throughout Australia. Most recently, Mike has served as a Principal Employee Relations Advisor at a national employer organisation in the oil, gas and energy resources sector – advising some of WA's largest employers on complex workplace matters. He has also worked with the University of Western Australia Mediation Clinic. Mike holds a Bachelor of Arts (Industrial Relations and Politics) from UWA, and has added formal mediation, FDRP, Gestalt Therapy, and Myers Briggs (MBTI) to a career built on resolving difficult situations at work and between people. He now brings that experience to Mediation At Work – working directly with clients who need a skilled, impartial hand to help them find resolution.
Accreditation You Can Rely On
Mediation is an unregulated field in Australia — so accreditation matters. Mike holds dual accreditation covering both general mediation and family dispute resolution, providing clients with confidence that his practice meets the highest professional standards.
AMDRAS Accredited Mediator
Accredited through the Australian Mediation, Dispute Resolution and Arbitration Society — the recognised national standard for professional mediators in Australia.
Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner (FDRP)
Registered as an FDRP as required under the Family Law Act. Mike is authorised to conduct FDR and issue Section 60I certificates, which are legally required before filing for parenting orders in the Family Court of WA. Mike also holds a current National Police Clearance and Working with Children Check.

How Mike Can Help

Family Dispute Resolution
As a registered FDRP, Mike can assist separating couples with parenting arrangements, child custody, and property matters. FDR is generally required by law before filing for parenting orders – Mike can guide you through the process and issue a Section 60I certificate where required.

Workplace Mediation
Structured mediation between employees, teams, or employer and employee. Drawing on 40+ years in HR and employee relations across mining, energy, and professional services, Mike understands the dynamics that make workplace disputes complex – and how to move past them.

Advisory and Conflict Coaching
Sometimes the best outcome is avoiding formal mediation altogether. Mike can advise managers on handling difficult conversations, help organisations review policies that are creating friction, and work with individuals preparing for a formal process. Early, informed action often changes the outcome.

Mediation/Facilitated Discussion
For interpersonal disputes outside the workplace – neighbour conflicts, business partnership breakdowns, community or contractual disagreements. A neutral, structured process that helps both parties reach an agreement they can live with.
